Antique blue and white large porcelain jug from J.F. Wileman, Foley Pottery, Staffordshire, England, stamped "French". Produced approx. 1892–1905 during the late Victorian period, before the company became known as Shelley in 1910.
The jug was originally manufactured as part of a Victorian toilet or wash set – the characteristic wash sets with matching basin, soap dish, and jar, which were a fixed part of home furnishings before modern bathrooms. Many sets have since been separated, and the jugs are now often found as standalone collector's items.
The shape is classic for the period with a round, full body, wavy top rim, and distinct angled handle. The "French" decoration is executed in detailed cobalt blue transferware on a white background with dense floral ornamentation and elegant panel divisions.
A striking and heavy piece of English antique porcelain that works beautifully as a vase, a decorative jug, or a central element in a blue and white collection.
