Handmade Mexican silbato – Teotihuacán birdman (hombre pájaro) – clay flute in pre-Columbian style

Handmade Mexican clay whistle (silbato) shaped like a birdman (hombre pájaro) – a ceremonial warrior figure with bird headdress from the Teotihuacán tradition.

The figure is modeled in red clay and hand-painted in polychrome colors – red, green, blue, and beige. The four holes in the chest serve as finger holes that produce different tones, and the blowing opening is at the bottom – the whistle is fully functional and still produces sound.

This type of figural whistle has roots in pre-Columbian tradition. Numerous ritual objects have been found in the Teotihuacán area, and the ancient Aztecs used clay figure whistles in many forms for ceremonies. The figure is a handmade artisan product based on the local pre-Columbian tradition – not an antiquity.
