Beautiful Indonesian terracotta vase, probably from Madura, made circa 1950–1970. The vase is hand-turned in red-fired clay and decorated with incised, archaic-inspired ornamentation, which gives a lively and characterful expression. The surface bears traces of wood or reduction firing with natural darker shades, which emphasizes the artisanal touch. The shape and decoration are typical of mid-20th century Indonesian ceramics, created for decorative use and inspired by older ceramic traditions. An atmospheric and decorative object with a clear patina and authentic expression.
